A database search of over 190 million records is performed looking for criminal records on your applicant using Name and Date of Birth. Next, we conduct a more detailed local-level confirmation search on any results found and report any felony or misdemeanor records within the last 7 years. This two-step process gives you a fast response when no match is found, and if we do report a record, the information is timely, accurate and complete. The Federal Criminal Search searches federal districts for crimes that occurred on federal property and/or violate federal laws, such as tax evasion, fraud and embezzlement, mail and wire fraud, drug trafficking, immigration law violations, postal offenses and other offenses that are prosecuted federally.

This search is commonly used by companies for applicants who will have access to company records or funds.

What are they?

Some states charge fees to perform motor vehicle record checks and some courthouses to conduct county felony and misdemeanor criminal searches. These fees are implied to cover their own internal expenses and are therefore outside of HireRight's control. HireRight does not mark up any of these fees; they are passed directly to you.

Do all states and courthouses charge fees?

About 1/3 of all counties have surcharges and the counties within each state vary (i.e. some will charge, some will not) however, almost every state imposes some sort of fee for a motor vehicle record check.

How much do they charge?

Fees can range from as little as $1 up to $65 (in the state of New York for example). If there is a surcharge, the average cost is about $5 per order.
