Beware recruitment risks as you reinvest in talent

Steve Girdler, Managing Director EMEA, HireRight comments: “There is a feeling of cautious optimism in the business press regarding the global economic outlook but improvement is still patchy. In the UK, output grew by 0.8% between July and September, the best quarterly performance since 2010 and following a 0.7% growth between April and June. However, in the Eurozone, whilst output has grown for the last four months the rate of growth fell in October. From a recruitment perspective we have seen a significant increase in activity and when I have asked our clients how they view the economic climate, without exception the response has been positive. To many it feels as if the shackles have been taken off. Businesses are investing in talent for the future.  We may soon be back to the days before 2008 where the war for talent is high on the agenda for the HR community.

At HireRight we recognize the crucial role we play in ensuring the talent our clients have identified are who they say they are and have done what they claim to have done. We also recognize that screening can sometimes be seen as a brake on the process of getting new hires on boarded. The number of inaccuracies we uncover is increasing month on month. As we investigate these anomalies the screening process inevitably slows down especially if the inaccuracy is a deliberate one and candidates are reluctant to engage with the process.

With this in mind and the constant drive for improvement in the speed to hire we are always looking at ways to improve our service. I am delighted that there will be a number of enhancements announced over the coming months and further plans to launch a number of new services in 2014. A new improved screening report has already been released which is easier to navigate and clearly identifies any anomalies, and customers on our Powerchex platform will soon be able to see the progress of each case online and in real time.

The future promises to be even more challenging as ever more inventive and devious ways are sought to outwit companies’ security measures and we at HireRight are committed to ensure the people our clients want to hire are who they claim to be, and that we make the process of getting them started as smooth, fast and trouble free as possible.”
