Using personal information as a basis for hiring someone could badly backfire, warned the EMEA managing director for HireRight.

SMEs should be wary of relying on social media for recruitment because there is no way of verifying the information they learn, says Steve Girdler, EMEA managing director for HireRight, a recruitment screening company.

He said: “Social media is readily available and quick and easy to use, but that is the danger of it because what people put up on social media is not regulated or verified. It is personally put up information and it may not be true. You may not be relying on accurate information.”
