23% of Screenings Conducted by HireRight in India Contained Discrepancies

In its Employment Background Screening Trends Report for India, HireRight announced that 23% of over 218,000 screenings it conducted in India from January 2014 to April 2015 contained a lie or discrepancy.

This means that almost three out of 10 resumes screened contained discrepancies, with more than half of them relating to education.

Hiring a candidate who does not have the right qualifications can have serious consequences on an organisation. Aside from damaging a company’s reputation, a bad hire can pose a security and legal risk to organisation if they misuse office assets and confidential information, ultimately affecting a company’s productivity and bottom line.

While there has been an increase in hiring in the last quarter in India, the percentage of discrepancies found in the screenings undertaken in India has also increased year-on-year, doubling from 13 percent in 2013 to 26 percent in 2014.
