Employers Bullish on Hiring, Poll Suggests

Posted · Add Comment

In order to better understand future hiring plans of employers, last week HireRight surveyed nearly 800 customers across a broad set of industries and company sizes about their hiring expectations for the next six months. While recent leading indicators and economic reports have suggested some market optimism, clear signs of a job market recovery have yet to surface.

However, if the results from last week’s HireRight poll are any indication, a job market recovery may not be far away. When survey respondents were asked how they expected their workforce size to change in the next six months, 66 percent indicated that they expected to increase the size of their workforce.

Of those, 18 percent are expecting an increase in workforce size of six percent or more. Only four percent of respondents expect to decrease the size of their workforce in the next six months, and 30 percent expect no change.

HireRight’s poll and some other leading economic indicators point to a job market that looks to be heating up in the months to come, driving higher levels of hiring and likely increased quit rates as employees change jobs for better opportunities or compensation.

At the same time, though, most of the labor market indicators do not yet reflect significant job growth and quit rates have been fairly flat.

Are we poised for a significant change in hiring trends or more of the same? Is there a war for talent on the horizon? What’s your prediction?
