As of January 22, 2017, a new version of Form I-9 will be required going forward. This video was created to help you become familiar with the major differences and updates.
Of course it’s still required that all employers must ensure proper completion of the Form I-9 for each individual they hire in the U.S., including both citizens and noncitizens.
On the form, the employee must attest to his or her citizenship and employment authorization. The employee must present the employer with acceptable documents proving these two things.
The employer must examine the employment eligibility and identity document(s) to determine whether the document(s) appear to be genuine, and then record the document information on the I-9.
Employers must retain each I-9 for a designated period and make it available for inspection by authorized government officers.
