The Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) limits the circumstances upon which background reports can be requested and fulfilled. Additional restrictions imposed by data furnishers require a stringent credentialing process to validate the legitimacy and security controls of your business.
Some inspection items include verification of a separate locked space used exclusively for the operation of the business and under the business’ sole control, locked file cabinet, password protected computers, shredding or locked document destruction bins, business license, signage, and dedicated phone lines.
As a reminder, home-based businesses cannot receive access to data supplied by credit bureaus, such as employment credit reports and Social Security Number trace results to reveal aliases and addresses. In addition, users may not request a background report on themselves.
