#LifeAtHireRight – What Makes Pride Special
Here at HireRight we continue to celebrate Pride month! We’ve asked LGBTQ+ colleagues and our allies to tell us what makes Pride special to them.
Here at HireRight, our teams work hard to build the future of screening services while striving to put our customers first. Internally, we rally around a culture committed to collaboration, a service-first mindset, a sense of ownership, and other corporate values to help employers get it right – every time, everywhere. But what is it like to work here? And who are the employees behind our background screening and workforce solutions?
We are continuing to spotlight what #LifeAtHireRight means for our team members – in their own words. We asked members of our employee-led PRIDE affinity group what makes Pride special to them. Let’s hear what they have to say.
Pride Month is about celebrating the love and acceptance in our LGBTQ+ family. As someone who's been part of this journey for a very long time, tolerating and moving beyond the systemic discrimination, I've seen how much we've grown as a community and how much support means to us. And while it's heartening to see how far we've come, there's still much more to do! Pride isn't just the parties; it's about real people, our stories, and how we're changing the world. This month let’s embrace the courage to be our true selves, the love that elevates us, and the solidarity that strengthens us. Here's to a Pride filled with joy and a future where we All understand Each Other…Better! Happy Pride, Everyone!
Lori Webb, Vice President Data Acquisition Strategy, WFH in Tennessee, (U.S.)
Pride Month is special to me because I came out as bisexual later in life and often feel like my identity is overlooked or erased. It's a time when I can connect with others who understand my experience, celebrate who I am without fear, and find a sense of community and visibility that I don't always get the rest of the year. Being part of Pride reminds me that my identity is valid and that I'm not alone in this journey. It gives me the strength to keep embracing and expressing my true self.
Meg Brown, Client Services Specialist, WFH in Tulsa, Oklahoma, (U.S.)
For me, Pride Month is an important opportunity to show active solidarity with marginalized groups and ensure family, friends, and coworkers know that I am a safe place for them to be who they are. It is also a reminder to keep listening and learning, to always let their voices be heard by being present with and for them, and taking away lessons on being open to and welcoming of the humanity in each of us.
Mary Lundregan, Healthcare Solutions Consultant, WFH in Alexandria, Virginia (U.S.)
Pride Month is an important time to recognize and celebrate our LGBTQIA+ community. It gives us the opportunity to bring awareness and invite discussion around questions people may have, with the goal of encouraging support and acceptance. At the end of the day, we are all human and we deserve to love and be loved - this is what we celebrate.
Nathan B. Levoit, Vice President, Talent and Employee Experience, Irvine, CA (U.S.)
For me, Pride is a chance to celebrate the extraordinary progress we have made in India, even over my working lifetime. Pride celebrations are a great way not just for members of the LGBTQ+ community to come together and celebrate how far we’ve come personally and but also for allies – including organizations and corporations – to demonstrate their support in a visible way. Pride is about showing our support for each other, and everyone who is a part of our greater community – our neighbors, partners, clients, families, and fellow citizens –and maintaining the same level of respect and inclusion we’ve always woven into the fabric of who we are.
Shankul Chheda, Director of Operations, Mumbai, (India)
I celebrate Pride not for myself, but to be visible for those members of the LGBTQ+ community who are struggling with their identities or looking for acceptance. Although the community has come a long way in terms of acceptance, coming out and living authentically can still be very difficult. Pride is an excellent opportunity to show people that you are a safe person for them to be themselves with and that you will love and accept them no matter what. I would not be here today without the people who supported me on my journey, so the opportunity to be that visibility and be part of that community is something I will never take for granted.
Lindsay Watts, Account Coordinator, WFH in Virginia Beach, Virginia, (U.S.)
I see Pride as the time when we all become allies, humans supporting other humans. It is time to reflect on the equality of all and on the values that we must profess as a society.
Adal Cuenca, Account Coordinator, Mexico City (Mexico)
Pride month is a special time for allies because it reminds people that support, solidarity, and grace can (and should) be the societal baseline. Pride month amplifies voices of advocacy and equal rights, which can encourage others to address prejudices, stand up for discrimination, and at minimum, recognize where there is room to grow and learn.
Jodi Jeannette, InfoSec GRC Management, Maine (U.S.)
It provides us a platform to celebrate people who, for far too long, have been isolated by the shame that society cast on them. If even one life can be saved by witnessing the outpouring of love from a community and its allies, then it’s well worth it in my book!
Kristi Reed Manager of Data Acquisition Strategy, WFH in Missoula, MT (U.S.)
Pride allows us to reflect on the importance of kindness and compassion, transcending the divisive rhetoric that often surrounds the LGBTQ+ community. It’s a sober reminder to celebrate our shared humanity, recognizing that respect for one another is the foundation of true equality. Embracing my identity as an LGBTQ+ individual, I hope to inspire others to do the same.
