Steps to GDPR Compliance: The GDPR is in Force!
Post number 12/12 in HireRight's "Steps to GDPR Compliance" blog series, published on the day that the GDPR was enacted in 2018.
Step 12 – Go Live
Today is the day! The 25th of May 2018, and the GDPR is finally in force!
After 2 years of preparation, including a Brexit hiccup, we have finally reached this milestone.
All organisations hopefully are as prepared as they can be, but the GDPR really is a brave new world in respect to how businesses will handle personal data. We will all surely learn a lot in the first 6-12 months of the GDPR being in force: not least, how Supervisory Authorities will interpret the legislation and how individuals will react to their much-publicised rights.
Moreover, with privacy by design being at its very core, the GDPR ensures that organisations, whether controllers or processors, will have to give due consideration to embedding privacy into their organisational fabric. To that end, HireRight has recently appointed its Data Protection Officer, who may be contacted at dpo@hireright.com.
Here at HireRight, we are very proud of our best-in-class service, and the work we have done over the last 2 years has directed us to the view that the future of background screening is to deliver a globally consistent service with local compliance at its heart. In the next month or so, you will be hearing some exciting news about HireRight’s services. Watch this space!
While we hope that you have enjoyed this blog series, the work certainly does not stop now. However, we think we would be remiss if we did not all take a short pause to recognise a monumental day!
Here are our closing words on the GDPR for now, in the form of a poem set to animation. We hope that you enjoy it!
