Guy Abramo, HireRight’s President and CEO kicked off the report with a thought-provoking summary of the key global trends. He highlighted the ongoing impact of macro-economic conditions on recruitment landscapes, emphasizing the need for agility and innovation within the HR function. Ko Hui Yen, SVP and Managing Director of APAC and India provided insights into the unique challenges and opportunities employers face in the region, including the rise of remote work and talent retention. Drug Screening Trends
Navigating the ever-shifting legal landscape surrounding drug use—in particular marijuana use—can be challenging for employers. As societal acceptance of cannabis grows, legislation is moving toward stricter anti-discrimination measures for medical users and even comprehensive recreational legalization. To help navigate this complex terrain, HireRight's Associate General Counsel, Alonzo Martinez, provided insights into the U.S. legislation impacting background screening in 2023.
Additionally, our Chief Medical Officer, Todd Simo, offered guidance on navigating drug testing in the face of varying state laws and the potential impact of CBD in our blog post "Can CBD Impact Drug Testing Results? What Employers Need to Know." To further guide employers, we offered considerations for implementing a reasonable suspicion drug testing program.The healthcare industry has faced massive workforce challenges in the last few years, including maintaining a strong drug screening program for applicants. We took a deep dive into these challenges, looking at what drug screening in healthcare looks like post-pandemic, and how to improve background screening turnaround times.
